The Flat File Program at Arlene’s is back for a fourth year. This year-long exhibition is all about celebrating local talent, making original art more accessible, and building a creative community that feels like home.
What’s a flat file, you ask? Google defines it as a storage unit with short, wide, and deep drawers designed to store large-format documents like blueprints, maps, artwork, and other oversized items in a flat, unrolled, and uncreased condition. We use it to house a juried collection of two-dimensional artwork—think drawings, prints, paintings, and more.
This season’s artists were selected by juror Carolyn DiFiori Hopkins, a painter, illustrator, and teaching artist whose work blends classical technique with modern storytelling. Thanks to her thoughtful eye, we’re proud to feature work from: Anne W. Ackerson, Brian Cirmo, Ava Clemenzi, Maria DeAngelo, Tom Fox, Gabriella Gabriel Dillmann, Katie Langford, Sherri L. Mackey, Meagan Mason, Rich Radke, Valerie Richmond, Kristin Stainbrook, Tracy Straight Freed, and Lori Sylvester.
Whether you’re a seasoned collector or just dipping your toes into the art world, the Flat File Program is a great way to discover something new, support local artists, and take home a piece that speaks to you. All artwork featured in the Flat File Program is available for purchase—just scroll down to browse the collection. You’ll find a wide range of styles, subjects, and price points, making it easy to find something you love.
Want to see the work in person? Visit the R Gallery inside Arlene’s Artist Materials at 57 Fuller Rd, Albany, NY 12205. The flat file is just inside the gallery on the main level of the store.
