Call for Art: Creative February Show 2025

Join us in celebrating a decade of Creative February—a movement that began in 2014 when award-winning artist Takeyce Walter decided to give herself the best birthday present: time to create art daily throughout February. What started as a personal challenge has since grown into an inspiring nationwide tradition, encouraging artists to create, share, and exhibit their work.

Now, we're inviting participating artists to submit their work for the Creative February Show at the R Gallery at Arlene’s. This juried exhibition will showcase selected pieces created during the Creative February 2025 season, highlighting the dedication and talent of artists who embrace this annual challenge.

about the juror:

Takeyce Walter is an award-winning contemporary painter, art instructor, and media producer based in upstate New York. Born in Jamaica, she has cultivated a deep connection to the Northeastern landscape, using oil, gouache, and pastel to create evocative portrayals of nature’s beauty. Her work explores themes of serenity, intimacy, and humanity’s relationship with the environment.

Beyond her artistic practice, Takeyce is a passionate advocate for both art and conservation. In 2022, she founded Art and the Environment, a youth program in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy and Black Dimensions in Art, providing young artists with opportunities to explore plein air painting and environmental stewardship.

In 2014, she launched Creative February, a month-long initiative that has since inspired artists worldwide to create art daily throughout February. Her work is represented in galleries across upstate New York and held in private and institutional collections, including The Adirondack Experience and Saratoga Hospital Foundation. Through her art and advocacy, Takeyce continues to inspire a deeper appreciation for the natural world.
