Every summer, the 3x3 at Arlene’s transforms the R Gallery at Arlene’s into something electric — a joyful, overflowing celebration of creativity, generosity, and community spirit. Hundreds of tiny artworks, each just 3 inches square, arrive from artists, makers, students, hobbyists, and neighbors. Every piece is anonymous, every contribution equal, and every sale supports a local nonprofit doing meaningful work in the Capital Region.
But in 2026, the 3x3 isn’t just a beloved tradition.
It feels essential.
A Year That Needs Community More Than Ever
This year has been marked by uncertainty, tension, and rapid change. Social and political conversations across the country have grown louder and more polarized. Many people are feeling stretched, disconnected, or overwhelmed. In moments like these, community spaces — especially creative ones — become more than places to gather. They become places to breathe.
Art has always offered a way to process the world, to connect across differences, and to remember what we share. The 3x3 at Arlene’s does this in the most accessible way possible: through small works with big heart, created by people who care about this region and the people in it.
Why the 3x3 Matters
The 3x3 is built on values that feel especially urgent right now:
Accessibility — Anyone can participate, anyone can purchase, and everyone is welcome.
Equity — All artworks are anonymous and priced the same, leveling the playing field between emerging artists and established professionals.
Collective Impact — Proceeds support a local nonprofit strengthening the cultural fabric of our region.
Joy — In a year that has felt heavy, the 3x3 is a reminder that joy is a form of resilience.
This year’s beneficiary, the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council (LARAC), continues to uplift artists and arts organizations across the region — work that becomes even more vital when communities are navigating social and political strain.
A Celebration of Creativity, Generosity, and Togetherness

From the Arlene's Members‑Only Preview on July 9th to the Opening Party on July 10, the gallery will be buzzing with energy — hundreds of artworks, dozens of stories, and a shared sense of purpose. Every piece purchased supports LARAC. Every visit supports the artists who donated their time and talent. Every moment spent in the gallery strengthens the creative ecosystem we all rely on.
In a year when it’s easy to feel divided, the 3x3 offers something rare:
a space where people come together simply because they love art, community, and the idea that small acts can add up to something meaningful.
