About the event
This class will teach the core principles of figure drawing through long and short poses and focus on proportion, anatomy, measuring, and an understanding of the use of the page. The following will be taught: boxing in and the division of halves and quarters for the best composition, gesture, line of action, mass drawing, and direct drawing. Building form will be taught through the use of cross-contour and line sensitivity as it relates to light and space. Students will learn various ways to light their model and additionally how to quickly block in shadow shapes and render core shadow. The work of Deane G. Keller will be referenced and Harold Speed. This class will use traditional media - charcoal in its varied forms, conté, and blending tools. Various papers will be experimented with as materials are conventional.
