About the event
Students will learn the more known applications of color theory: painting with the primaries and white, warm/cool, harmony, discord, color chords, hue, value, and chroma, and the lesser-known theories such as the limited palette, the simplified Zorn palette, and rhythmic patterns on the sixteen color wheel. Students will gain an understanding of the relative nature of color relationships, how to give unity to design, and how to create space and light through color. References from various approaches to color systems throughout history will be referenced such as the Johannes Ittens wheel, the Munsell scale as well as Joseph Albers and James Gurney. A brief component of the class will be value charts as it relates to the inherent value of each hue. The class will use gouache and create wheels, charts, and designs of their choosing.
Supplies are not included in the cost of the workshop. Refer to the Materials List linked below for more information.
