Arlene’s and the R Gallery at Arlene’s are delighted to present Worlds Beyond: An Exhibition of Fantasy and Science Fiction Art. Worlds Beyond brings together local artists whose work explores the limitless possibilities of the fantastical and the speculative. Juried by Artist in Residence Aly Parrott, this group exhibition celebrates the many ways artists imagine other worlds—whether through mythic storytelling, futuristic visions, or entirely abstract interpretations of the unknown.

While the exhibition is framed around fantasy and science fiction, the definition is intentionally broad. Artists working in abstract, figurative, multimedia, digital, or traditional imaginative realism are all welcome. What matters most is the spirit of invention and the desire to push past the familiar.

The exhibition runs May 1–30, 2026, with an Artist Reception on Friday, May 1, from 4:30 to 5:30 pm. Step into a space where creativity breaks the boundaries of reality and invites viewers to imagine what lies beyond. The R Gallery at Arlene’s is located inside Arlene’s Artist Materials at 57 Fuller Rd Albany NY 12205. Admission is free, and the exhibit is open during regular store hours—Monday through Friday from 10 am to 6 pm, Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and closed on Sundays.
About the juror
My name is Aly Parrott
Aly Parrott is an artist and educator from the Helderberg Mountains whose work is shaped by a lifelong love of fantasy, science fiction, and the textile and drawing traditions passed down through her family. She holds degrees in Interdisciplinary Arts, Art History, and Art Education, exhibits widely across the Capital Region, and currently serves as an artist in residence at Arlene’s while also teaching at the Wildwood School.

Submission Guidelines:

All artists wishing to participate in the Worlds Beyond: An Exhibition of Fantasy and Science Fiction Art must submit a complete application prior to the deadline of 5 pm (EST) on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, and be selected by our juror, artist in residence Aly Parrott. Any incomplete applications will not be considered.

Selected artist will be notified by Wednesday, April 1, 2026.

Submissions are open to all 2D and 3D media including, drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, mixed media, fiber art, sculpture, etc.

All artwork must be original and created by the artist

Artwork submitted will be the artwork displayed in the show.

Artist's will be asked to submit an Artist Statement and Biography

All artwork must be a maximum of 11x14" unframed or 12x12" square. Sculptural work must be a maximum of 11x11x14" or 12x12x12".

Image file size must be at least 300 dpi and labeled in the following format: FristNameLastName_Title.jpg or FristNameLastName_Title.png.

Exhibition List that corresponds to the images submitted. The list should include the artist's name, titles, mediums, sizes, year made, and prices (including 40% commission).

All 2-dimensional work must be properly framed and ready to hang with appropriately installed hanging hardware at the time of drop-off. NO clip frames or sawtooth hangers.

Artists whose artwork has complicated installation instructions must contact the Andrew, at arlenesartist@gmail.com, prior to submission to ensure we can accommodate your request.

All artwork must be clearly labeled with the artist’s name, title, medium, price, email address, and phone number.

The artist will receive 60% of sold artwork with a 40% commission going to the R Gallery at Arlene’s.

All artwork must remain on display for the duration of Worlds Beyond: An Exhibition of Fantasy and Science Fiction Art- Friday, May 1, 2026 through Saturday, May 30, 2026.

Artwork pick up is between Monday, June 1, 2026 – Saturday, June 6, 2026 during store hours, no exceptions.
