Keep It In The Light

Arlene’s and the R Gallery at Arlene’s are delighted to present Keep In The Sunlight, an invitational exhibition inspired by the warm, uplifting spirit of Benjamin Franklin’s reminder: “Do not anticipate trouble, or worry about what may never happen. Keep in the sunlight.”This timeless encouragement—to stay present, embrace optimism, and resist the pull of unnecessary worry—serves as the guiding light for this exhibition. Drawing on themes often echoed in Stoic philosophy, the show invites artists to explore positivity, resilience, and joy through the radiant symbol of the sunflower.

Featuring mixed media sunflower artwork created by Maria DeAngelo and students from her Mixed Media Sunflower Workshops, Keep In The Sunlight brings together a vibrant collection of interpretations. Each piece reflects the techniques explored in Maria’s classes while celebrating the individuality of every artist’s vision.

Together, these works will transform the R Gallery into a glowing garden of color, texture, and creative expression—an environment that embodies the exhibition’s message of hope and brightness.

The R Gallery at Arlene’s is located inside Arlene’s Artist Materials at 57 Fuller Rd  Albany NY 12205. Admission is free, and the exhibit is open during regular store hours—Monday through Friday from 10 am to 6 pm, Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and closed on Sundays.
