Ever wanted to capture a place while you’re out exploring? Travel sketching with gouache is the perfect mix of spontaneity and painterly expression—and Peebles Island is the ideal setting to learn. With sweeping river views, rocky outcrops, bridges, forest trails, and wildlife, this workshop invites you to slow down, observe, and translate the landscape into vibrant, compact sketches.

You’ll learn how to build a portable gouache kit, create quick value studies, block in bold shapes, and add expressive details—all while working on location. We’ll start with guided warm‑ups to help you simplify the complex natural forms around you. Then, from your choice of river overlook or wooded trail viewpoint, you’ll complete a full travel‑style gouache sketch that captures the light, color, and atmosphere of Peebles Island.
