The Living Journal with Carolyn DiFiori Hopkins, MFA

There is a moment before a painting becomes a painting—a space where thought, memory, image, and gesture meet. The Living Journal is a three‑week creative practice that invites you to work inside that space, using your sketchbook as both container and catalyst. Each session begins with an open‑ended prompt designed to spark direction rather than prescribe it. You’ll move fluidly between writing and image, letting one inform the other as you build pages that hold contrast, tension, and resolution. This is a working studio class meant for exploration, experimentation, and forward motion.

Over three weeks, you’ll explore:

• Layered mixed media — watercolor, ink, collage, and drawing

• Intuitive mark‑making and responsive color
