Entangled Horizons
March 6, 2026, to, March 27, 2026
Arlene’s Artist Materials and the R Gallery at Arlene’s are proud to present Entangled Horizons, a solo exhibition of recent work by Carolyn DiFiori Hopkins. In Entangled Horizons, Hopkins explores the sky as a living archive—an ever‑shifting expanse that holds light, weather, beauty, and the lingering traces of human unrest. For DiFiori Hopkins, the sky is both witness and participant: it absorbs rupture, renews itself, and becomes a site where transformation is always underway.

Within these paintings, angels and other beings emerge from the charged atmosphere. Though we may look to them for solace, they are not purely benevolent. They are shaped by the turbulence they inhabit—figures formed from the same unsettled air that surrounds them. Historically, angels were never sentimental; they were powerful messengers, often unsettling and sometimes fearsome. DiFiori Hopkins returns to that lineage, presenting beings who carry both the weight of disruption and the possibility of renewal.

The horizon becomes a threshold where destruction and regeneration coexist, where past and present remain entangled in the same shifting light. Through layered color, movement, and ambiguity, DiFiori Hopkins invites viewers to consider the sky not as a backdrop but as an active force—one that reflects our fragility, our longing, and our capacity for resilience.

Entangled Horizons offers a space to sit with uncertainty, to witness beauty shaped by unrest, and to encounter beings who, like us, are transformed by the worlds they move through.
