In the world of art, there is a unique ability to capture not just images but emotions and experiences. Ottavia Huang, an artist-in-residence at Arlene's, has harnessed this power in her upcoming solo exhibition, "People and Places." Through her distinctive style of whimsical watercolors and drawings, she offers us a glimpse into the moments that have touched her during her travels and daily life. These moments, so often overlooked, are now preserved in stunning detail on paper.
The Art of Ottavia Huang
Ottavia Huang's medium of choice is watercolor and pen. This combination allows her the freedom and accessibility to create art on the go, utilizing light, transparent colors to convey a profound sense of tranquility and serenity. She masterfully brings her subjects to life with an art form that seemingly breathes the very essence of her experiences into each piece.
When asked about her inspiration and process, Ottavia explains, "I use watercolor and pen as a medium as it gives me the flexibility and accessibility to paint on the go using light, transparent colors to represent a sense of calm and peace. These sketches are mementos from my travels and my journey in exploring the Capital Region as my new home. With these drawings, I want to capture the experience with and the connections to a place and the minute details of everyday things that would often go unnoticed. I hope when people view my art, that same feeling of serenity will reach them as well."
