At the Atelier at Arlene's, we are thrilled to welcome a diverse group of exceptionally talented artists to our 2023-24 Artist in Residence Program. This year, we are delighted to introduce both new faces and familiar favorites, each contributing their unique artistic perspectives to our vibrant community.

Maria DeAngelo: A Lifelong Pursuit of Creativity

A name that many in our community will recognize, Maria DeAngelo is an artist and educator with a lifelong commitment to creativity. Educated in fine arts, Maria's journey has been marked by her insatiable curiosity, leading her to explore a wide array of materials in her artistry. Maria's creations range from whimsical murals with positive messages in schools to educating countless young artists and creating joyful artworks for all to enjoy. She delves into jewelry, fabric arts, paintings, sculptures, and much more. Her vibrant use of color aims to make us more alert to the beauty in small moments, fostering positivity and focus. With Maria, we embark on an energetic artistic journey filled with joy and creativity.

Ottavia Huang: Sketching Serenity

Ottavia Huang, along with Maria, is one of our returning artists in residence and has a profound ability to capture the tranquility of the everyday world through her art. She employs watercolor and pen as her medium, creating light and transparent sketches that transport viewers to serene landscapes and the minute details often overlooked. These sketches are mementos of her travels and explorations, particularly in the Capital Region, her new home. Ottavia's art emanates calm and peace, inviting others to experience the same serenity that she finds in her work.

Tracy Loring: The Intuitive Storyteller

Tracy Loring brings a dynamic storytelling approach to her artistry. Her paintings unfold around specific intentions, whether it's medium, subject matter, feeling, or color. Inspired by the beauty of nature, she incorporates its glorious colors and textures into nearly every piece. Tracy is drawn to acrylic ink and watercolor, allowing the organic nature of these media to guide her work toward abstraction. Her art invites viewers to co-create stories and interpretations, making each piece a collaborative journey.

Aly Parrott: Mythical Explorations in Media

Aly Parrott, hailing from the heart of the Helderberg Mountains, is a multi-talented artist whose work spans a wide array of media. Her art is driven by mythology, folklore, and the archetypes they have shaped throughout history. Whether it's reimagining legendary figures in digital prints or capturing moments from the hero's journey in watercolor and resin, Aly's art beckons you into a world that is both uncharted and strangely familiar.

We are immensely excited to have these talented artists in residence at the Atelier at Arlene's. Each of them brings a unique perspective, style, and vision to our creative community, contributing to the diverse tapestry of artistry that we celebrate and cherish.

Stay tuned for the exciting work and creative journeys that our 2023-24 Artists in Residence will share with us, and join us in celebrating the boundless creativity and talent that enriches our artistic home at the Atelier at Arlene's.
